Ian Goodfellow

Ian Goodfellow is Director of Machine Learning at Apple. He has been a deep learning researcher since circa 2008. He invented generative adversarial networks, developed the first defenses against adversarial examples, was among the first to study the security and privacy of neural networks, helped to popularize the use of GPUs for deep learning, and helped to popularize the field of machine learning security and privacy. He is the lead author of the MIT Press textbook Deep Learning (www.deeplearningbook.org). Ian was listed among MIT Technology Review’s 35 Innovators under 35 in 2017, Foreign Policy’s 100 Global Thinkers in 2019, and Fortune’s 40 under 40 in 2019. He has made many contributions to open source software projects including OpenCV, ROS, Theano, TensorFlow and CleverHans.
