Yann
LeCun
Yann is Chief AI Scientist for Facebook AI Research (FAIR) and Silver Professor at NYU affiliated with the NYU Center for Data Science and the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences.
His research interests include machine learning and artificial intelligence, with applications to computer vision, natural language understanding, robotics, and computational neuroscience. He is best known for his work in deep learning and the invention of the convolutional network method which is widely used for image, video and speech recognition.
He is the recipient of the 2018 ACM Turing Award (with Geoffrey Hinton and Yoshua Bengio) for "conceptual and engineering breakthroughs that have made deep neural networks a critical component of computing".
Sandra
Avila
Sandra Avila is an Assistant Professor at the University of Campinas (Unicamp), Brazil (since 2017). She received a double degree Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Pierre and Marie Curie University (now Sorbonne University), France, and from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, in 2013, a M.Sc. in Computer Science from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, in 2008, and a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the Federal University of Sergipe, Brazil, in 2006.
Her current research interests include Machine Learning and AI techniques for healthcare, sensitive media analysis, precision agriculture, and other tasks. Her research on skin image analysis — classification, synthesis, debiasing — has been recognized through several academic awards, including Google Research Awards for Latin America (2018, 2019, 2020). In 2020, she participated in the BRICS Young Scientist Forum, representing AI research in Brazil. Her passion is to encourage more girls and women to pursue STEM fields.
Enzo
Ferrante
Enzo Ferrante completed his Engineering degree at UNICEN University (Tandil, Argentina, 2012); his PhD in Computer Sciences at Université Paris-Saclay (CentraleSupeléc / INRIA, 2016) in France, under the supervision of Prof. Nikos Paragios; and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Imperial College London (BioMedIA Lab, 2017) with Prof. Ben Glocker. He returned to Argentina where he holds a research scientist position from the Argentina's National Research Council (CONICET) and a lecturer position at Universidad Nacional del Litoral. He leads the Machine Learning for Biomedical Image Computing research line at the Research Institute for Signals, Systems and Computational Intelligence, sinc(i).
His research interests span both artificial intelligence and biomedical image analysis, with focus on deep learning methods. In 2020 he received the Mercosur Science & Technology Award and the Young Researcher Award from the National Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences of Argentina, for his contributions to the field of artificial intelligence and medical imaging.
