Francisco Förster Burón is Full Professor at the Data and Artificial Initiative at University of Chile, Director of the Millennium Institute of Astrophysics, Associate Researcher at the Center for Mathematical Modeling, and Associate Researcher at the Center for Astrophysics and Affine Technologies. He is the academic coordinator of the Master of Data Science at University of Chile. He did his undergraduate studies at University of Chile (B.Sc. in astronomy and engineering) and obtained a D.Phil. at the University of Oxford studying the progenitors of Type Ia supernova explosions in 2009. He led the installation of a robotic telescope in Cerro Tololo in 2011 and led the High Cadence Transient Survey (HiTS) program that pioneered the real-time discovery of supernova explosions using large digital detectors between 2013 and 2018. Between 2019 and 2024 he led the ALeRCE astronomical alert broker, a next generation tool in the interface between astronomy and data science to sift through millions of nightly alerts, and an official Community Broker of the Vera C.
